Founded in 1984, Contemporary Artists is the Academic Journal of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute and a professional, academic and documentary art journal.

For one thing, supported by Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, the journal functions as a promotional and demonstration platform for the teaching, creation and research achievements made the university teachers and students. For another thing, rooted in the local culture, it is endowed with vivid localization and scarcity by the distinctive advantages of the contemporary art development in the southwest region. Thirdly, it focuses on the national development strategy and heated topics within the discipline, fundamental theory and artistic practice with research value, to keep pace with the times. Fourthly, with an international and globalized vision, it introduces the most cutting-edge western literary and artistic theories and internationally influential artistic trends, while exporting the achievements of Chinese contemporary art and building multi-level academic dialogues by presenting the key content in Chinese and English to tell good China stories. Fifthly, it is actively preparing for the digitalization and transformation in the omni-media era and exploring a new path for the publication and dissemination of  professional art journals of China.
